What is Roots?

Building upon the CASEL framework, we are developing the Roots purpose-driven card deck to foster deeper connections and encourage emotional expression, leaving players with a greater awareness of their feelings and a deeper understanding of each other’s experiences, ultimately fostering empathy and stronger relationships.

What is Social Emotional Learning and CASEL Framework ?

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) helps individuals develop skills to manage emotions, build relationships, and make responsible decisions. The CASEL framework focuses on five key areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. SEL has been proven to support language development, reduce anxiety, and boost academic performance by reducing behavioral issues and increasing student engagement. Involvement of families further enhances the impact of SEL.

How will this benefit English Language Learners?

Our approach supports ELL students by fostering emotional awareness and creative communication through structured yet flexible storytelling, reflection, and expression. This helps students build confidence in voicing their needs, practicing articulation, and understanding their rights. By creating meaningful connections through shared dialogue, we ensure ELL students feel heard, valued, and connected to their communities.
